Data Scientist — Healthcare Analytics

Location: Nashville, TN (Green Hills/Burton Hills area)

About EvidenceCare

EvidenceCare is a physician-founded clinical decision support company headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. We build EHR-integrated tools that empower clinicians with the evidence, data, and insights they need to make better care decisions.

Our BetterCare Platform—including AdmissionCare, CareGauge, and CareInsights—helps health systems optimize clinical workflows, improve patient outcomes, and strengthen margins.

We're trusted by leading health systems including MedStar Health, Orlando Health, Wellstar, and Lee Health. We've been recognized as a Top Workplace in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare, ranked #436 on the Inc. 5000, and hold HITRUST and SOC 2 Type 2 certifications.

About the Role

We're looking for a Data Scientist to join our team and help healthcare organizations improve outcomes by understanding provider behavior patterns. You'll work at the intersection of statistical modeling, machine learning, and customer engagement—building and supporting analytical solutions that surface actionable insights around discharge practices, lab ordering, procedures, medication orders, and other clinical metrics that impact hospital performance.

This isn't a pure research role. You'll need to deeply understand our existing codebase, explain complex methodologies to non-technical stakeholders, and provide hands-on technical support to customers who want to understand why a score or formula produces the results it does.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and refine statistical models that identify and score provider behavior patterns (e.g., variation in ordering practices, discharge timing, procedure utilization, medication orders)
  • Apply machine learning techniques for regression and classification problems to predict outcomes and segment behaviors
  • Dive into our existing Python codebase to understand, maintain, and extend current analytical solutions
  • Serve as a technical resource for customers—answering questions about methodology, walking through calculations, and helping them interpret model outputs
  • Translate business requirements into analytical approaches: when a customer needs to surface a specific behavior pattern, you'll determine the right statistical framework to make it visible and actionable
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to integrate models into our platform

What We're Looking For

  • Strong Python proficiency, including experience reading and working within established codebases (not just writing from scratch)
  • Solid foundation in statistical modeling—particularly approaches suited to behavioral analysis such as logistic regression, survival analysis, or propensity scoring
  • Experience with machine learning for regression and classification, with an emphasis on interpretability over black-box approaches
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to customers and stakeholders who need to understand and trust the methodology
  • Comfortable working in healthcare data environments; familiarity with clinical workflows, quality metrics, or hospital operations is a plus
  • A problem-solving mindset: you enjoy figuring out why a model behaves a certain way and can explain it to others

Nice to Have

  • Experience with healthcare claims data, EHR data, or quality/performance measurement
  • Background in customer-facing technical roles (solutions engineering, technical support, or consulting)
  • Familiarity with behavioral economics or nudge-based intervention design
